Paula Abdul: Insert Uncomfortable Collar-Tug Here.
I know this is old news considering the VH1 Divas special was days ago, but after watching Paula Abdul cement her "crazy" status, I couldn't not comment on it.
In addition to her hosting duties, Paula took to the stage to perform her 1980s anthem, Straight Up - perhaps in an attempt to prove herself still relevant after her departure from American Idol. However, it should be noted that comebacks, performances and things of the sort are much more effective when the musician in question perf...
Megan Fox + Shock Value = …Huh?
So in the spirit of the Toronto International Film Festival and the release of Jennifer's Body in theatres today, I thought I would show my support for Diablo Cody by dedicating today's blog to her latest release.
Then I watched the trailer again. And then some featurettes. And then I began to wonder why this movie was made. And what happened to the witty and talented writing I had come to love through Diablo's memoir, Candy Girl, or through Juno, or through United States of Tara (which I h...
It’s the (Third) Most Wonderful Time of the Year
With the Kanye West backlash in full effect, it's easy to lose sight of one of the important things. I mean, this week alone, Kate Gosselin got a haircut, Nas and Kelis have (allegedly) reunited, and Heidi and Spencer bought a puppy.
But most importantly? It's premiere season.
That's right, y'all. Abandon your flip-flops and seashell necklaces (permamently, actually - they're awful). Summer has ended and yielded to my (third) favourite time of year - next to Thanksgiving and Christmas,...
Nobody Puts Baby In a Corner
In the wake of VMA pandemonium, sad news came out of Hollywood Monday when it was announced that the legendary Patrick Swayze had lost his battle with pancreatic cancer.
Although Patrick outlived his doctor's estimate, and had previously admitted he was aware of his impending death, the situation is obviously quite sad - especially for us pop culture junkies who grew up on Dirty Dancing, Ghost and The Outsiders.
Who didn't try to master the famous Baby-Johnny dance routine at the close o...
Queen O and the Peas.
For Oprah, anything is possible.
And in this case, "anything" pertains to a 21 000-person choreographed dance routine set to a Black Eyed Peas live performance of "Tonight's Going to Be a Good Night". You heard me. 21 000 people. Black Eyed Peas. Choreographed dance. All for Oprah's season 2301 kickoff show.
This has left me conflicted for a number of reasons - all of which I'd like to share.
1) "Tonight's Going to Be a Good Night" is one of the most popular songs of the summer - and I...
‘Tay. Rachel Zoe Outakes Spoof
We're all familiar with Rachel Zoe, right? 'Tay.
You know, she's the terrifyingly thin celebrity stylist who works with Cameron Diaz, Anne Hathaway and Kate Hudson. She also stars in the self-titled reality series, The Rachel Zoe Project but you may know her best as the subject of scrutinity by certain celebrity bloggers - mainly the infamous Perez Hilton who seems to fully have his hate on for her.
If you need a visual, here:
So to all you haters? Yeah, she just ate dinner. ...
William Shatner is a Common Person
I'm pretty sure this video is old news, but after listening to lots of Pulp (among other British artists) this Labour Day weekend, I felt nothing captured the essence of "Common People" like the William Shatner version set to the 1960s Star Trek cartoon.
Am I wrong? Didn't think so.
And just when you thought it couldn't get any better, you're treated to a cartoon alien strumming away on some sort of space guitar. "Mood music", perhaps, as Spock and Kirk struggle to come to terms with the...
Not Jimmy Hendrix
Oh. My. God. This happened.
No, I'm not referring to the Jonai donning well-fitted wifebeaters or skinny jean sto the approval of preteens everywhere, I'm talking about their "hardcore" attempt to come across as legit rock stars.
First, let me state that I don't have anything against the Jonas Brothers. No, I don't listen to their music or know any of their songs, but I understand every generation needs token heartthrobs. JTT, Leo and BSB were mine - The Jonai are simply the equivalent ...
Throwback: She’s All That
Go back to a simpler time; a memorable time. A time of butterfly hair clips, chunky-heeled sandals, matte lipstick and Freddie Prinze Jr. Of 17 magazine and high school rom-coms that didn't consist of singing basketball stars or a Disney Channel monopoly.
Join me to discuss a little 1999 film, She's All That.
Oh, you remember it. Freddie Prinze Jr., Rachel Leigh Cook, Paul Walker pre-racecar movies. Usher pre ... um, whatever. Usher in the 90's. The typical "popular vs. underdog" dyn...
